Studying in Edinburgh: What to Do and Where to Stay

Students | Tips for Students | 09/11/16

Edinburgh is a beautiful city packed with culture and history. It’s also home to many universities and colleges, making it Scotland’s biggest student centre. Edinburgh is also one of the UK’s best student cities, and is home to some of the most renowned universities in the UK. If you’re lucky enough to be studying here, make sure that you know how to make the most of your time!

What to do

When living in Edinburgh, there are a few sites which must be visited. One of these is Arthur’s Seat. This hill is located in the centre of Edinburgh and reaches a peak height of 250.5m and offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding city. This is the perfect spot for any students looking to relax on a nice day. Another must see of the city is Edinburgh Castle. This impressive structure is one of the most popular landmarks of the city. The castle has a lot of historical significance and it provides an insight into Scottish history and culture. It also offers stunning views of the surrounding city. As previously stated, Edinburgh is packed with culture. There are many museums and galleries for you to enjoy such as, the National Museum of Scotland, the Museum of Edinburgh, the Scottish National Gallery, and the Royal Scottish Academy.

With regards to student nightlife, this city does not disappoint. Most student nightclubs are located on Georges Street, while The Cowgate area offers many venues for gigs etc. “Silk nightclub”, which specialises in R&B and hip-hop, is a popular choice for students as this club boasts cheap drinks. “WhyNot” nightclub is also a very popular choice among students.

Where to stay

If you’re looking for accommodation in Edinburgh during your studies, then check out what Roomlala has to offer. We offer a wide range of alternative accommodation for students. You can find various forms of accommodation such as flat-shares, spare rooms, and work in exchange for accommodation. Renting alternative accommodation, especially spare rooms (home-stays) is a cheaper alternative to traditional renting. The rent for a spare room is considerably lower than that of a traditional rental. Also, renting cheaper forms of accommodation also allows you to have more money to spend on leisure during your studies!
